Drink what? This sign was in the window of Griffin Grocery.
Escalante is about what you’d expect for a community with a population of 813 people, 75% of them Mormon. We stayed 5 miles east of town. On the west end of town they have a beautiful Interagency Visitor Center, or what we used to call a BLM office.

Our nice boondock spot for five days of free camping

The morning light was gorgeous on the Kaiparowits Plateau.

We did the Lower Calf Creek Falls hike.

The creek begins in Boulder Mountain and runs year round. It’s a 124 foot waterfall.

This makes me laugh. It’s also a sad commentary that you have to tell people not to crap next to the falls.

With all the rock in the area you’d think there would be more riding, but there really isn’t. We did one ride that ended up on Eagle View, considered some of their finer single track. It wasn’t anything special.

Tuesday night the Noltes arrived just in time for sunset. They boondocked one evening with us, then after Spooky headed to a resort in Boulder.

A little campfire party…then the next morning was Spooky.

The day after Spooky hell, we met the Noltes at Boulder and had an easy day mostly driving the Burr Trail.

This was a nice little pedestrian slot called Singing Canyon to help get rid of the taste of Spooky.
